As seen in this report there are many forms that child abuse can take and many different types of people who would do such a thing to innocent children. As stated before, child sexual abuse takes many different forms and not all perpetrators are strangers who sneak into a child's room at night. Some perpetrators are people we know and trust and in most cases they abuse their victims without the victim knowing they were harmed. Some form of child sexual abuse is taking place in most homes and even churches and schools throughout the United States. For some parents it may be difficult to recognize when your child is being hurt.  Perpetrators will often use everyday forms of abuse such as pranks, teasing, or harassment to gain access to a child's room at night when the family is asleep. Other forms of abuse will involve blackmail. It is important to know whether a child is being hurt and if a parent or guardian realizes that a child is being hurt, they must take immediate action to stop the abuse.  This can involve calling the police, going to a hospital emergency room, or going to a place where there are professionals who can help such as Child Protective Services (CPS).
